her mind a cacophony 

tangled thoughts

a constant rumination between

what she wanted

to say and

what she ought

always compromising

always sympathizing

not wanting to hurt

or disturb another

disappoint a mother

anger a brother

invite ridicule or wrath

she CHOSE silence

because silence was safer

but she had so much to say

she still does
